Graphite Foil Specifications
Graphite Foil - A flexible graphite material excellent for hot pressing applications, also flexible thin sheet, or laminated form with inherent directional properties. There are a variety of graphite foil gasketing, packing, adhesive backed tape, roll, sheet, laminate and injectable products available in a variety of grades designed to meet virtually every industrial fluid sealing requirement.

Sheets - Pure, pliable graphite manufactured without binders, resins or additives to change the inherent properties of the graphite material. Thermally stable, anisotropic, chemically inert, impermeable to many molten materials and liquids.

FAQ's
Q. What is graphite foil?
A. Graphite foil is a pliable graphite material with anisotropic properties similar to pyrolitic graphite.

Q. What is graphite foil's anisotropic orientation?
A. It is a good thermal and electrical conductor within the plane of the surface but a much poorer conductor through the thickness of the material. It also has a surface reflectivity several times that of ordinary graphite.

Q. What are graphite foil's applications?
A. Among others, graphite foil is potentially applicable to high and low temperature gaskets, to packing, and to lubricate seals. It can be used also in ceramic hot pressing as a protector to punches and dies. Graphite foil also prevents adhesion of ceramic reactions and reduces friction erosion through the pressing and extraction process.

Q. What other applications are possible?
A. Flexible tape for resistance furnace windings; linings for metal crucible. Furnace insulation liner for reflecting heat from foam or felt insulation that normally would absorb heat. Tape can be cemented to foam or felt.

Q. What are its chemical properties?
A. Graphite foil is impermeable to many gases and fluids, and is corrosion resistant.

Q. Is graphite foil very pliable?
A. Yes. It is both flexible and thin. It may be cut and contoured to size.

Q. How about lubricity?
A. Graphite foil has excellent self-lubricating properties in various temperatures and atmospheres. It is highly resistant to thermal shock. It lasts indefinitely on the shelf, since it has no aging or embrittlement characteristics.

Q. Is it a good electrical and thermal conductor?
A. Yes, in the flat plane only; it is a poor conductor through the thickness.

Q. Does it resist chemical attack?
A. Yes, with the exception of strong oxidizing or graphic intercalation agents.

Q. Can graphite foil withstand temperature extremes?
A. Yes. We have mentioned its resistance to thermal shock. It can withstand temperature extremes from 3000°C in neutral or reducing atmospheres, down to cryogenic temperatures.

Q. Is graphite foil economical?
A. Yes. Price has been greatly reduced as usage increased.
